Giving a Presentation

1 Day Event

Prerequisite: This course builds on the 2 day Effective Engagement Skills Training. Learners should have previously undertaken this.

It is easy to consider ourselves experts in how to engage with offenders; especially when we have had training in the past.  Like all skills, however, it is useful to refresh and revisit them so as to avoid complacency in the quality of your practice.  This training aims to build on previous learning and offer practical solutions on how to overcome engagement barriers with cases you are currently working with.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Identify the various theoretical approaches to effective engagement.

  • Identify how to overcome the difficulties in engaging with offenders where regular 1 – 1 sessions are not the norm.

  • Work through your own case examples where there are barriers to engagement and explore with the help of others practical solutions to overcoming these issues.

  • Identify how to maintain effective communication and offender relationships in a remote role.

This 1 day course is aimed at all practitioners who have previously completed the 2 day Effective Engagement Training.  This course would be useful to complete on a 2 year refresher basis.
