As a line manager or supervisor, it is often taken for granted by our staff that we know what constitutes excellent engagement and can be the ‘go to’ person for advice on good practice.  This training aims to refresh your knowledge of the theory of effective engagement with offenders while also offering you practical advice on how to support your staff to improve.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Identify the various theoretical approaches to effective engagement.

  • Utilise tools for identifying the strengths and learning styles of your staff.

  • Utilise tools for supporting staff to reflect on and improve their practice.

  • Identify the essential components of meaningful observation of staff practice.

  • Provide constructive feedback to staff based on skills practice.

This 1 day course is aimed at line managers and those who supervise practitioners in offender rehabilitation services.  This course would be useful to complete on a 2-3 year refresher basis when material could be adapted to ensure that current, live staff examples are used to support ongoing learning.
